Totems and Spirit Quests

I have been on a spiritual journey for the past couple of weeks and I plan to continue through finals until Christmas. I have analyzing my tendencies and my slight shopping addiction… and trying to come to a sensible conclusion. Through fasting and general meditation. My feelings on religion are very much tied up with my general gut feeling. I know when I am doing something wrong; I try not to ignore those feelings. I believe that all religions are true in that as long as they are someone’s truth there is truth in them. I just cannot commit myself to one. I think everyone should read the major texts. The Torah, The Bible (the full version), the Koran and Buddha’s teachings. They all boil down to one thing; love.

Living in New Jersey we always learned about the Lenape Tribe and of course visited Lenape Village. The Lenape were, according to my third grade NJ history class, totem builders. The totem is an animal that is your guide in life, most people have more than one. I have been thinking a lot about that lately and have decided on (at least one of my) totem animals.

I am the lioness. According to this website I found on it:

The fact that it is a nocturnal creature means that the lion is a symbol of authority and command over subconscious thought (as night is an ancient symbol of the subconscious – or dream states).

the lion shares the world of both night and day, the lion bears a message of prudence to us. In other words, the lion asks us to not overdo in certain areas of our lives. Rather, keep an even mind and an overall balance in our life activities.

The lioness is also the totem of feminine energy as it is a lunar creature.  While being feminine the lioness is a bad ass. It is the huntress for the group and the provider of her family. While the lion has the roar the lioness has the bite to back it up.

This whole spiritual thing is really sorting itself out. I was worried for a while cause I think everyone needs to have something to believe in. I’m choosing to believe in the good people.
